Whitetail, axis, and a moose.
Encounters from the field.

A whitetail buck at last light. An axis stepping out of the brush a beat too soon. A moose across an Alaska river, glassed before the light went. Two states, two years, the same instinct for when to have the camera up.

The story

Patience, mostly.

A whitetail buck grazing at last light on a Hill Country lease. An axis buck stepping out of the brush a year later. A moose across a river in Alaska, filmed as much for the memory as anything else.

Wildlife work rewards waiting more than shooting — reading which way the wind's moving, knowing when an animal's about to spook versus settle back in. That's the throughline here more than any one location: the same instinct for when to lift the camera and when to just watch.

The collection

The rest of the reel.

A handful of these came off the card shot in portrait. Rather than force them into a landscape frame, they stay native — this is the format more of this work is heading toward anyway.
